George Hopper (’82 Ph.D. forestry) earned the 2017 Southern Association of Agricultural Experiment Station Directors ESS Excellence in Leadership Award. He is director of the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station and dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Mississippi State University. Hopper, who also serves as dean of the university’s College of Forest Resources and director of its Forest and Wildlife Research Center, has dedicated his career to the university’s land-grant mission in the capacities of professor, department head, dean, and director.

“I am honored to receive the excellence in leadership award from among my peers in the Southern Association of Agricultural Experiment Station Directors,” he said. “It is a privilege to serve with this group that advances collaboration in agricultural and natural resources research and education.”
