CNRE faculty and staff are here to help our students — and each other — succeed

You can learn more about CNRE faculty and staff members’ areas of expertise and obtain contact information by clicking on the department links below.

Enroll in the Ichthyology course and you’ll get the chance to don a pair of hip waders and explore local streams like Stroubles Creek, which runs through the Virginia Tech campus. Professor Don Orth will be right there beside you to help identify the common and celebrate the rare aquatic species that call Southwest Virginia home.

Assistant Professor Stella Schons teaches students about the economics and business of forestry, and her tools of the trade are models and spreadsheets.

She’s putting these tools to work and collaborating with local communities to address one of the biggest and most complex challenges of our time: deforestation in the Amazon.

Staff keep projects moving and people working safely

Senior Laboratory Specialist David Jones is an expert in woodworking who shares his experience and techniques with Sustainable Biomaterials students and faculty working on projects in the Wood Shop. Jones also ensures that everyone stays safe by providing training on and monitoring for all safety protocols.

You’ll find dedicated and knowledgeable staff across the college, ready to help with any task, from assisting with an outdoor field experience class to helping a graduate student get reimbursed for conference travel expenses.
