Do you love CNRE? Be an ambassador for the college!

If you enjoy meeting people and telling them about your experiences in your major, with the college, and at Virginia Tech, consider applying to be a College of Natural Resources and Environment ambassador. CNRE ambassadors work closely with the Advising Center to serve as guides and recruiters for prospective students and their parents, represent the college at university-sponsored events such as open house programs, act as hosts at alumni receptions and events, and help teach several first-year experience labs.

Questions? Contact John Gray Williams at or 540-231-4909.

CNRE ambassador applications must be submitted by February 1, 2019. Please note that if selected, you MUST attend the mandatory training session on Saturday, February 16, 2019, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why should I become a CNRE ambassador?

Not only will you have the chance to represent your college and the university, and make a difference in the academic careers of current and prospective students, but you'll also get all of the following:

  • In-depth knowledge of the college and departments
  • The chance to meet and connect with college and departmental administrators
  • Leadership opportunities
  • Experience speaking to diverse audiences
  • Opportunities to network with alumni and employers
  • Free ambassador shirt and official CNRE nametag

How can I learn more?

We strongly recommend that you attend an information session before submitting your application to learn more about the program, requirements, and expectations. You'll also be able to talk with current ambassadors and ask questions. Those individuals who attend an information session will receive special consideration in the application review process. Information sessions will be held on the following dates:

  • Monday, Janaury 28, 2019, from 6 to 7 p.m. in Cheatham 136B
  • Tuesday, January 29, 2019, from 6 to 7 p.m. in Cheatham 136B

What are the requirements?

  • Have a minimum 2.5 GPA.
  • Submit a completed online application that includes your resume, as well as contact information for a CNRE faculty or staff member who will serve as your reference. Please make sure you notify this individual prior to submitting your application, as he or she will be contacted by the Advising Center.
