Geography students earn USGIF scholarships
November 15, 2015
Geography majors Travis Stevens-White of Laramie, Wyoming, and Matthew Vaughan of Louisville, Kentucky, each received a $5,000 scholarship from the U.S. Geospatial Intelligence Foundation. Scholarship recipients are chosen based on their academic and professional excellence in a field related to the geospatial intelligence tradecraft.
Stevens-White, who graduated in May 2015, also completed an associate’s of applied science in electronics technology from Cochise College. The veteran of the Iraq and Afghan wars started law school this fall and eventually plans to use his education to enter the defense industry.
Vaughan’s primary interest is in the use of GIS and remote sensing; he has long enjoyed studying both human and physical geography and the interactions between the two. After taking a year off to gain work experience and hike the entire Appalachian Trail, the 2014 graduate started work on his master’s at Texas A&M this fall.
