Undergraduate Student

Madeline Williams

Majors: Geography + Spanish

Expected Graduation Date: May 2018

  • Minor: International Studies

I am a student currently involved in the fight against global climate change via the Virginia Student Environmental Coalition, a student-led organization leading state-wide actions against the fossil fuel industry here in Virginia. During my internship with the Chesapeake Climate Action Network, I was a member of a small team of activists organizing a 650+ person march on the governor’s mansion to demonstrate several environmental concerns Virginians hold. I currently serve as the chair of the VPI Cave Club’s conservation committee where I help to preserve the fragile karst ecosystems in our state. I am also working on a GIS project with the Town of Blacksburg to update the city’s Americans with Disabilities Act compliance.  Through Virginia Tech’s Spanish Honors Society, I head the Spanish program at a local elementary school teaching Spanish skills to young students.

My dream job would be one where I can be part of the push for environmentally-conscious planning on either the macro or micro level, and ideally utilize my Spanish and hopefully GIS skills in the process.  I look forward to finding an employer who shares my commitment to sustainable practices and one where we can push one another in our mission to improve ourselves and the world around us.
