Undergraduate Student

Izzy Ahwee-Marrah

Majors: Environmental Science - Water Science and Quality Option + Classical Studies

Expected Graduation Date: December 2018

I am most passionate about environmental conservation, especially relating to water supply. I started my education as an engineering major, dreaming of inventing sustainable technologies. After doing undergraduate research involving water filtration systems, I realized the problem was not a lack of scientific knowledge, but rather a lack of public support.  In the spring of 2016, I traded organic chemistry for a job with “The Mouse”. I was a professional intern for the Walt Disney World Company, working as a Conservation Education Presenter. Here I acquired a passion for public outreach and sustainable consumerism. With a double major in Environmental Science and Classical Studies, I hope to combine a complex knowledge of science and the environment, with an understanding of people and societies. I plan to pursue law school and eventually participate in writing conservation legislation and regulations. My dream job? Attorney for VA Department of Agriculture, U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources member, Secretary of Interior…my dream changes often, but my goal of igniting change holds steady.
