Bridget Acland

Major: Sustainable Biomaterials

Bridget Acland is a senior studying Sustainable Biomaterials with minors in Green Engineering and Environmental Policy and Planning. Bridget is a sister of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and an intern with the Office of Sustainability at Virginia Tech. She has had the chance to study renewable energy in Iceland while taking classes at Reykjavik University, and has applied her knowledge while spending time in rural Africa starting a solar charging business that is now owned and operated entirely by woman. These experiences have shaped Bridget into the person she is today and have allowed her further her love and knowledge of renewable energy and efficiency to solve real world issues. Through various internships in different aspects of the renewable energy industry from generation to government regulation, she has gained valuable experience with regards to education of sustainable practice and solutions, allowing her to further her knowledge on pressing environmental and sustainability issues facing society, and corporate business development.

Bridget would like to use her passion and knowledge of international relations, sustainable development/program management, environmental regulation and concerns, as well as renewable energy use and implementation to help large businesses within the United States (and/or globally) to work in the most efficient manor possible, viewing sustainability as an opportunity to grow and give back, taking sustainable practice to the next level in the corporate environment.
