Undergraduate Student

Erica Roesel

Double Major: Packaging Systems and Design + German

Expected Graduation Date: December 2016

As a senior in honors majoring in Packaging Systems and Design and German, I have explored many work and research opportunities and extracurricular activities at Virginia Tech. For a year I interned at the Center for Packaging and Unit Load Design, a packaging lab at Virginia Tech that contracts package testing to companies. Through this work experience I obtained a grasp on ISO, ASTM, and ISTA package testing, and became an ISTA certified packaging technician. As part of the internship, I completed a group research project, The Effect of Package Geometry on the Strength of Wooden Pallets. This project furthered my interest in research. Currently I work as research assistant in Department of Biological Systems Engineering making protein-based films for packaging. When I am not working or studying, I have enjoyed participating in campus ministry, the women’s club Ultimate Frisbee team, and the running club. Since I plan to graduate in December 2016, I would like to work in a challenging, innovation-driven job for a global company that is also working towards a greener future.
