Deepak Poudel

Major: Food Science and Technology with concentration in Microbiology

Expected Graduation Date: May 2017


Currently involved in a research project with the Horticulture Department as a Lab Assistant. Involved in Bridges to Baccalaureate, Virginia Tech Food Science Club, Microbiology Club. Participated in the Multicultural Academic Opportunities Program (MAOP) and started my first research experience as an Intern from MAOP at Virginia Tech.

My dream goal is to become a Food Microbiologist. I plan on doing research in a lab and travel when I can; I have learned that traveling opens more doors to different opportunities. I recently presented at the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students. The impact I would like to have on the world would be to bring healthier and safer food for every person living on this planet. As a Food Microbiologist, any outbreak can be tested and studied and I would like to be part of that process and prevent them. What I am looking for is an opportunity, opportunity to advance in research, and peers that have same principle as mine. My main focus is a global issue and concern. I like to travel, go hiking, and explore new things and new foods.
