Undergraduate Student

Josh Hammes

Major: Geography with concentration in GIS and Remote Sensing

Expected Graduation Date: May 2016

  • Minor: Natural Resources and Sustainability

I am a charismatic and determined student graduating in the spring of 2016 with a major in Geographic Information Systems (GIS)/Remote Sensing and a minor in Sustainable Natural Environments. I have been a member of the Geographic Society since beginning my education at Virginia Tech. I have worked on key projects with NASA DEVELOP, NASA’s Earth Science division. Those projects included a flood model to show risk and a map identifying remote villages in the Amazon rainforest to provide medicine. My dream job involves working on projects such as the ones I did with NASA to provide aid through the power of GIS and Remote Sensing applications to foreign or domestic parties. The impact I hope to make on the world ultimately comes down to the smile on the faces of those I have helped. Working with organizations whose main purpose is to help those with problems of sustainable growth and management and travelling to meet those impacted is what I am seeking most. I wish to be given the opportunity to work for any employer who aspires to use my sets of skills as well as their resources to grow not only their own company, but the world around us.
