Undergraduate Student

Malee Garcia

Major: Biological Systems Engineering with concentration in Watersheds

Expected Graduation Date: May 2017

  • Minor: Green Engineering

My name is Malee Garcia, and I am a junior at Virginia Tech with a major in biological systems engineering and a concentration in watersheds. I am also pursuing a minor in green engineering. I am a first generation college student and have been successful in obtaining many scholarships to help pay for my education. I am involved in clubs such as the Environmental Coalition, Students for Clean Energy, Society for Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), and the Society of American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE). These clubs have helped me make differences when it comes to environmental awareness as well as professional development and networking skills. Currently, I am a part of an aquaponics design team under ASABE with 7 others where we are incorporating engineering with biology, such as living fish and plants. The team was started this year with no precedent. I am seeking a summer internship in environmental conservation with interests in water resources, stream restoration, and watershed engineering. I enjoy working in teams and outside in the field when possible. My main goal for the future is to be a part of creating a sustainable future, and I am looking for an employer with the same values.
