Undergraduate Student

Laura Featherstone

Major: Environmental Policy Planning

Expected Graduation Date: May 2016

  • Minor: Sustainable Natural Environments

I’m Laura Featherstone, an Environmental Policy and Planning major, with a minor in Sustainable Natural Environments. While studying at Virginia Tech I participated in the animal welfare organization called Helping Animals Learn Trust (HALT) where I had the opportunity to serve as the fundraiser and event-planning chair. I’ve always had a passion for animal and human welfare. I have been an intern with the Office of Energy and Sustainability of Virginia Tech’s campus for 3 years, and was also a intern at the Fairfax County Parks and Recreation Planning Department. My work at Virginia Tech has taught me the importance of people having the opportunity to get educated and understand that their choices and lifestyles matter. Through my work and volunteer experience I have developed a desire to help manipulate the built environment in a way that will promote a more sustainable lifestyle throughout communities. I hope to be able to encourage consumers to consider a more sustainable lifestyle through my work.
