Undergraduate Student

Philip Dumont

Major: Mechanical Engineering

Expected Graduation Date: May 2016

  • Minor: Green Engineering

My name is Philip Dumont, and I am a senior at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. In the spring of 2016 I will receive a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with a Minor in Green Engineering. A college project that I have been involved in is the Well Drilling and Pumping System in Malawi, Africa. My responsibility within the project team is to research and design a drilling and bailing method to reach the water table as quickly and cost effectively as possible. Our designs will be tested next spring, and if successful will be implemented as a communal water source in Malawi the following summer. Being a Green Engineering minor, I understand the need for companies to push towards better protection of the environment and global resources. Therefore, I want to work with an employer where I can utilize the sustainable practices I’ve learned, whether it be analyzing the life cycle analysis of a product, reducing transportation emissions, or improving efficiencies in energy development.
