by Christina Nelson of Purcellville, Virginia,

a sophomore majoring in wildlife conservation in the College of Natural Resources and Environment

Christina Nelson earned honorable mention in the 2015-2016 VOWA/Hunt’s Best Collegiate Outdoor Photo Contest with this image of a falconer and his eagle, capturing the connection and commitment between falconer and bird. The falconer pictured is Liam McGranaghan, Nelson’s high school AP Environmental Science teacher, who encouraged her to pursue her interest in wildlife and the environment and was a huge factor in why she decided to major in wildlife conservation at Virginia Tech.

Nelson was last year’s VOWA/Dominion Resources Collegiate Undergraduate Best Overall Entry winner in the essay category.
