Aug. 15, 2015 – Geography master’s student Catherine Howey of Roanoke, Virginia, an intern for Blacksburg Transit and the New River Valley Metropolitan Planning Organization (NRV-MPO), earned the first place poster award at the annual Virginia GIS Conference last fall. Her poster showcased the MPO-funded Regional GIS Transit Portal, a website dedicated to transit mapping information, including regional bus routes and stops.

“Ms. Howey’s poster explained the development and impact a transit GIS portal can have on providing accurate public transportation data within the New River Valley area,” said Erik Olsen, transportation planner for Blacksburg Transit and NRV-MPO.
