Guests at Satellite Launch

College group at satellite launch (L-R): Robert Oliver, assistant professor of geography (holding his son, Ben); Valerie Thomas, assistant professor of forest remote sensing; James Campbell, professor of geography; Christine Blinn, research scientist; Randolph Wynne, professor of forest remote sensing; and Wynne’s children, Jacob and Hannah Wynne.

May 15, 2013 – A group from the college traveled to Vandenberg Air Force Base in California to attend the February launch of Landsat 8, the latest in a series of U.S. scientific satellites that have been imaging the Earth’s surface for 40 years. Landsat 8 provides images at a scale at which human land management activities are evident, making it a valuable resource for researchers and land managers. As previously reported in CNRE News, Randolph Wynne was recently renamed to a five-year term on the national Landsat Science Team; Valerie Thomas and Christine Blinn are co-investigators on the research team.
