Elizabeth Bourgeois (’85, ’87) receives Beale Memorial Award

Nov. 13, 2015 – Elizabeth Bourgeois (’85 B.S., ’87 M.S. forestry) received the Society of American Foresters’ John A. Beale Memorial Award, which recognizes outstanding efforts over a sustained period of time by a society member in the promotion of forestry through voluntary service.

Since 1990, Bourgeois has served as an officer at the Society of American Foresters’ chapter and state society levels, and volunteered on at least one committee. She currently serves as secretary for the Edisto (S.C.) Chapter, a position she has held for the past 10 years.

Bourgeois has volunteered her time to educate members of the public about forestry. She has worked as communications chair for the South Carolina Division and editor for the Edisto Chapter’s “Forestry Tabloid” for 21 years. In addition, she has volunteered with Log-a-Load for Kids and the Trident United Way Day of Caring and, for the past nine years, has guided school groups at the Wood Magic Forest Fair, where fourth graders learn about forestry and how wood products benefit the State of South Carolina.

Bourgeois is currently a bookkeeper/scaler for KapStone Paper and Packaging Corporation in Summerville, South Carolina.
