In memoriam: Edward Dixon Lett (’51)


Aug. 15, 2015 – Edward Dixon Lett (’51 B.S. forestry and wildlife) of Newport News, Virginia, passed away on March 22 at the age of 93. After serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, he graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in forestry and wildlife and worked for the Virginia Department of Forestry. In 1955 he joined Newport News Waterworks, where he worked as a forester for the 9,000-acre watershed. He retired as watershed manager in 1990.

Lett played semiprofessional baseball and coached several youth baseball and basketball teams. He also guided many Boy Scouts to their forestry merit badges and devoted himself to service to his church.
