Nov. 15, 2014 – Bradley Miller (’09 Ph.D. forestry) received the Junior Employee of the Year Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance.

Miller completed his doctoral work under Professor Tom Fox, focusing on soil chemistry, before completing a post-doctorate with the Natural Research Council and Oak Ridge Institute for Science Education. He was hired by the EPA in May 2013 and quickly began making a name for himself as a team member and scientist. He is active on multiple workgroups, published four peer-reviewed journal articles, and solved instrument problems that saved thousands of dollars.

“Dr. Fox’s guidance as a soil scientist and mentor gave me the foundation I needed to go on to my job as an environmental forensic chemist with the EPA,” Miller said. “I learned so much during my time in the Virginia Tech forestry department with professors like Dr. James Burger, Dr. Michael Aust, and Dean J. Michael Kelly; Dr. Lucian Zelazny from crop and soil sciences; and Vice President Karen DePauw. Any minor success I enjoy now is in thanks to those individuals and Dr. Fox. I am forever grateful for their mentorship.”
