GIS ANALYST
 
 KGIS (Knoxville, Knox County, Knoxville Utilities Board GIS) is seeking a GIS Analyst / Products Specialist responsible for fulfilling map and data requests originating from KGIS departments and from the general public.
 
Candidate will act as the “front-line” clerk for customer-oriented requests for services and products.  Candidate will work with multiple GIS data formats and applications (including ESRI Shape/SDE, DXF, DGN). Candidate will also be a key support to other KGIS projects, especially the landbase mapping update and quality control. Other duties include: assessment / re-engineering of existing KGIS map production workflows and product offerings, data license management, database maintenance, and “ad-hoc” GIS analysis.
 
 
 
Requirements: BA/BS in Geography or related field. 2 years GIS-related work experience. Sound technical understanding of mapping and map data management issues. Ability to learn and adapt to new workflows and products. Must have the following abilities: a “good eye” for cartographic / graphical design; a solid understanding of mapping terminology and conventions, including coordinate systems and conversion; a working familiarity with topographic, planimetric, utility and property maps; excellent inter-personal skills, including oral and written communication abilities. Must be detail-oriented and work well in team environments. Must be very proficient with ESRI ArcGIS and relational databases, especially Oracle. Other beneficial skills: Web development, Web content management. Projected Start Salary: $42,000 depending upon experience and qualifications. Colorado Open Lands (COL), a state-wide accredited land trust located in Lakewood Colorado, is seeking a dynamic full-time Land Steward/ GIS Specialist.
This position will support COLs mission to preserve the significant open lands and diminishing natural heritage of Colorado through private and public partnerships, innovative land conservation techniques, and strategic leadership. The Land Steward/ GIS Specialist will have two primary responsibilities:
As a Land Steward (~65%), this individual is responsible for all aspects of conservation easement monitoring of protected property throughout Colorado. Conservation easement monitoring responsibilities include verifying that the provisions of each conservation easement are being met, recording natural and man-made changes to the property, and documenting land-use and management of each property. Easement monitoring involves a combination of long distance travel, one-on-one interaction with property owners and managers, onsite fieldwork, and office report preparation. The Land Steward will also assist with the development and execution of natural resource restoration and enhancement projects.
As a GIS Specialist (~35%), this individual will conduct GIS analysis and cartographic production to support COLs operations including planning, project management, board relations and fundraising. This individual will support COLs land protection and stewardship efforts by creating and/or compiling GIS datasets, analyzing statewide data, and producing publication quality maps.
Qualifications:
Excellent understanding of natural resource management issues, strategies, and principles in Colorado.
Working knowledge of Colorado plant communities, wildlife habitat, and noxious weeds.
Proficient in the management and use of Geographic Information Systems (ArcGIS 9.x) with excellent problem solving skills.
A thorough understanding of GPS technology and experience with field GPS data collection.
Understanding of principles and techniques of cartography and publication-quality map production.
Excellent writing, communication, and computer (Microsoft Office Suite) skills.
Ability to handle multiple priorities and to work independently but also effectively with other staff members.
Willingness to travel extensively within Colorado (approximately 50% of time, primarily between April and September) and to work in situations with occasionally challenging weather and travel conditions.
 
An ideal candidate would have the following qualifications and/or have the desire to learn:
Working knowledge of programming to generate tools or scripts to automate repetitive tasks.
Understanding of database design and integration between Microsoft Access and ArcGIS.
Familiarity with Geodatabases, ArcGIS extensions, ArcPad 7.x and/or ArcGIS Model Builder.
 
Education / Experience:
Degree equivalent to a BS/BA with major coursework in geography, land use and regional planning, environmental science, conservation or wildlife biology, natural resources management or other related field & relevant experience with GIS. Advanced degree preferred. Minimum three years experience.
 
This is a permanent full-time position. Salary: Mid-$30s with full benefits. Start date January 2nd, 2009.

GIS Analyst
Dewberry has immediate openings in Fairfax VA for entry-level GIS Analysts.  These GIS Analysts will be responsible for creating a variety of high quality digital mapping products using ArcGIS software.  The GIS Analyst will often coordinate their activities with other departments within Dewberry and perform basic data capture & annotation as well as create & manipulate geospatial databases.
 
Qualifications
The successful candidate must have academic and/or practical experience using ArcGIS 9x, and basic mapping and cartographic skills.  The ideal candidate possess a Bachelor’s degree in Geography or a related discipline, experience working with ESRI geodatabases, and a sound understanding of cartographic principles and how they are applied in a production environment.  Candidate must possess the ability to work both individually and as part of a team, and must have good communication skills.
 
Applicants must be willing to travel for up to 3 months in support of disaster field operations and be able to obtain a Security Clearance (a pre-existing clearance is not required).
