How to Master Your Money and Retire Happy

Abstract:

Financial management is an important life skill, yet understanding all of your options can be overwhelming. This session will focus on some basic principles of money management and retirement planning.

Learning Objectives:

As a result of attending this session, participants will:

  1. Understand the importance of financial planning and starting retirement planning early
  2. Learn about retirement planning options
  3. Leave with tips and tools for including retirement planning in their everyday budget

About the Presenters:

Ruth Lytton is a professor and director of the Financial Planning Program at Virginia Tech. She has received various student association, college, university, and professional association awards for her contributions as a teacher, researcher, and career/academic advisor. She was awarded the John H. Cecil Lifetime Service Award from the Central Virginia Chapter of the Financial Planning Association in 2009 and the national Financial Planning Association’s Heart of Financial Planning Award in 2012. In 2015 she received the Virginia Tech Alumni Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Advising.

Derek Klock is an associate professor of practice in finance in Virginia Tech’s Pamplin College of Business. In this capacity he also serves as coordinator for the CFP (Certified Financial Planner) Board-Registered Program in the Department of Finance and as co-advisor to the student chapter of the Financial Planning Association. His teaching and advising contributions have been recognized multiple times with various university-level awards and certificates. He frequently guest lectures and makes presentations to university organizations concerning personal finance. In addition, Klock has worked on several books related to personal finance.
