FOREST
PRODUCTS DEPARTMENT FILLS EXTENSION POSITION
BLACKSBURG, Sept. 25, 2002 -- In response
to the growing interest nationwide and the
subsequently increasing demand in the wood
products industry, Virginia Tech is expanding
its wood science and forest products department.
To
broaden its program at the College of Natural
Resources, the wood science and forest products
department has added Brian Bond as an assistant
professor and Extension specialist. Bond
will be working with the Virginia forest
products industry at Virginia Tech's Brooks
Forest Products Center.
Bond comes from the University of Tennessee,
where he was an assistant professor and
Extension specialist with the department
of forestry, fisheries and wildlife, and
the Tennessee Forest Products Center. Bond's
Extension and research has focused on improving
hardwood sawmill efficiency and lumber drying.
A
native of Roanoke, Va., Bond received both
his M.S. and Ph.D. from the wood science
and forest products department at Virginia
Tech. He also holds a B.S. from Clemson
University in wood products.
Bond
is a member of the Forest Products Society
(FPS), and has held several offices for
the FPS's Temperature and Tropical Hardwood
Lumber Target Interest Group. He is a member
of the Society of Wood Science and Technology
and served as secretary of the Tennessee
Valley Dry Kiln Association in 2001. Bond
has published five Extension articles, as
well as numerous articles in several peer-edited
journals. He has participated in over 50
Extension programs nationwide, providing
education to professionals in the wood products
industry.
