Walnuts

Black walnut trees are relatively free of insects, so the primary consumers of the tree are squirrels and humans. Many of the nuts buried by squirrels are not recovered, and these nuts often develop into seedlings. Walnuts are also dispersed by water and are often found growing in river bottoms. Native Americans planted and used walnuts for food. Because squirrels are a game species, humans are listed in the food chain as an omnivore.
