Real Forestry for Real Estate
This new program is funded by the Virginia Tree Farm Committee and the American Tree Farm System. The ultimate goal of this program is to put information on sustainable forest management in the hands of new forest landowners via real estate professionals.
Real Forestry for Real Estate Classes
Two 4 hour classes for real estate professionals. Each class has been approved for 4 PLE or 4 CE credits. These classes will help familiarize sellers with their product (rural land). Click the course for a detailed agenda.
- Real Forestry for Real Estate Part 1 (qualifies for 4 PLE/CE credits)
- Real Forestry for Real Estate Part 2 (qualifies for 4 PLE/CE credits))
- Real Forestry for Real Estate 8 hour program (qualifies for 8 PLE/CE credits)
Presentations will be given by forestry professionals from Extension, state agencies, and forest industry.

New Landowner Packets
At the end of the Real Forestry for Real Estate classes, participants will be given the option to take New Landowner Packets with them. These packets contain a wealth of introductory information for people interested in purchasing rural lands. Materials include:
- Importance of Virginia's Forests brochure
- VDOF Tree ID book
- Information on the American Tree Farm System
- List of resources available to forest landowners in Virginia
- List of cost share programs available for forest management activities
- Virginia Forest Landowner Update newsletter
- Virginia Forests magazine and Virginia Forestry Association information
- Information on managing small woodlots
- Postage-paid postcard which can be returned to sign up for the ForestUpdate Listserv
Real estate professionals who take the New Landowner Packets will be asked to distribute them to their clients. VFLEP will follow-up in 6 months to determine how many were handed out and to provide more packets if needed.
